After spending ten days in Bali, there are a few places I highly recommend visiting. Bali, one of Indonesia’s top travel destinations, is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, diverse landscapes, and thriving tourism scene. Whether you’re into yoga retreats, spa days, beautiful beaches, or vibrant nightlife, Bali has something to offer every traveler. This guide will give you all the essential information you need, from the best times to visit to the documents you’ll need, getting around, and some of the top spots to explore.
When to Visit:
The best time to visit Bali is from April to October, during the dry season. This is ideal for beach days, outdoor adventures, and sightseeing. However, be aware that June to August is the peak tourist season, meaning you’ll encounter bigger crowds, especially during the December holidays. Bali’s rainy season runs from November to March, with the heaviest rain usually falling in January and February. I visited in late October and early November, and though I didn’t experience much rain where I stayed (Nusa Dua), areas like Ubud (in the island’s interior) did see occasional morning showers according to the locals.
Trip Essentials:
Before you head to Bali, there are a few things you’ll need to make your entry into Indonesia smoother. First up is the Visa on Arrival (VoA), which is required if you’re staying for up to 30 days. The cost is around 525,000 IDR, and you can apply for it online through the Indonesian e-Visa website. Though you can also get the visa on arrival at the airport, the queues can be long, so it’s recommended to apply ahead of time.
Another required document is a health declaration pass, also called the ‘mpox declaration,’ which is free and done online before you arrive. You’ll complete the application and receive a QR code that will be scanned upon arrival.
Lastly, I recommend getting an e-SIM for your phone. They’re affordable, and you can purchase one based on how much data you need for your trip. For example, I got one for 250,000 IDR with 32GB of data, which was more than enough for my entire stay.
Getting Around:
Bali offers various transportation options like taxis, scooters, and buses. During my trip, I used both taxis and scooters, and found them to be the most affordable and convenient ways to get around. I booked my rides through the Grab app, which is pretty quick and easy to use. For short trips (under 20-30 minutes), scooters are a great option. For longer trips, taxis are more comfortable.
Places to Visit and Experiences:
Canggu
This laid-back town is perfect for those who love a relaxed lifestyle mixed with a vibrant vibe. There are lots of beach clubs, markets, and bars, along with wellness spots like yoga studios and spas. While I was there, I checked out the Love Anchor Market, Rustic Sun Salon, and Moana Fish Eatery.
The Love Anchor Market is great for shopping – think jewellery, home decor, and clothes, all with a local touch. If you are also looking for some pampering, the Rustic Sun Salon is a stylish spot offering manicures, pedicures, and hair treatments. I recommend booking in advance via their Instagram page since they can get busy. Then, for seafood lovers, Moana Fish Eatery is a must-visit. They serve fresh, tasty seafood in a laid-back setting, and they also offer vegetarian options. Reservations aren’t mandatory – I was able to walk in and get seated right away.
Uluwatu
If you’re into wellness, surfing, and stunning coastal views, Uluwatu is another must-see spot. Famous for the Uluwatu Temple and its luxury resorts and beach clubs, Uluwatu is perfect for relaxing by the ocean or enjoying some fitness activities. I recommend checking out Reform Pilates Studio, which offers reformer pilates classes for all levels in a peaceful, relaxing environment.
However, if you’re also looking for a beach club with great views and food, head to Palmilla Beach Club. The Mediterranean-inspired menu and ocean views make it an ideal spot to chill out.
Seminyak
Like Canggu, Seminyak has a lively vibe with plenty of restaurants, bars, and beach clubs. It’s also home to various wellness spots, including spas and yoga studios, offering a mix of relaxation and enjoyment. Although I did not find it as crowded as Canggu, getting around on a scooter is still a good idea.
For a trendy spot with delicious vegan food and an Instagram-worthy setting, I recommend the Kynd Community Café. It’s perfect for brunch with a menu full of plant-based meals and healthy smoothies.
Ubud
Unlike the more beach-centric towns, Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali. Surrounded by rice terraces and tropical forests, Ubud is known for its spirituality, local crafts, and art scene. It’s also a hub for organic and plant-based food.
During my stay, I booked a small-group Ubud tour with Hire Bali Driver through GetYourGuide.
One of the stops was D’Alas Warung, where I enjoyed a tasty Balinese meal with amazing natural views. I also visited the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, famous for their lush green layers, and the Tegenungan Waterfall, a peaceful spot to relax and take in the beauty of nature.
Also, don’t skip the Monkey Forest if you’re in Ubud! It’s right in the heart of town, and you can wander through while watching the monkeys in their natural habitat. Just keep an eye on your stuff—they love to grab anything they can reach! Entry is also super affordable and around 100,000 IDR.
And for coffee lovers, Lumbung Sari House of Luwak Coffee is a must-visit. You’ll learn all about how Luwak coffee is made, sample different types of coffee and tea, and even buy some beans to take home. It’s a great way to round out your Ubud experience!
Bali is an island full of variety, from the cultural charm of Ubud to the beach vibes and wellness in Canggu and Seminyak, to the peaceful coastal beauty of Uluwatu. Whether you’re looking to explore temples, relax on beaches, or enjoy amazing food, there’s something for everyone. By planning your trip around the best time to visit and getting your essentials in order, you’re set for an unforgettable Bali adventure.
