A Trip to Rhodes: A Must-Try Gemista Recipe Cooking Class

Looking for what to do:
If you are preparing to visit the stunning Greek island of Rhodes, you might be pondering how to plan your travel itinerary. Often, one of the biggest dilemmas in holiday planning is deciding how to make the most of your time. While relaxing by the pool in the sun is appealing, there are also numerous special memories that you can create with your family, friends, or even on your own.

Why travel experiences are ideal:
This summer, I had the chance to venture out to the delightful Greek island of Rhodes. While I was filled with excitement about visiting this new destination, I was equally determined to immerse myself in the Greek culinary traditions and savour every moment.

As a food content creator, one of my primary goals is to document my culinary experiences in various locations, and this trip was one of the many perfect opportunities.

Exploring diverse cultures not only adds to your knowledge of the places you visit but also give you a better insight on the people you encounter in your day-to-day life.

Moreover, the flexibility to book most holiday activities at the last minute is a bonus. For instance, if you arrive at your destination on a Friday, you can often make most of your bookings just a few days before or even upon your arrival.

Finding what to do:

During my trip, I stayed at the Gennadi Grand Resort, an exceptional hotel that catered to its guests’ leisure needs.  I chose to arrange most of my activities on my arrival, and to my surprise, the resort offered its own cooking classes.

As I mentioned earlier, I was interested in the Greek culinary traditions, hence, I signed up for one of their cooking classes. This was a straightforward process, with the majority of experiences available to book through the guest relations team.

If you are looking to book activities outside your accommodation, GetYourGuide and Airbnb are the top choices as you can usually find a wide range of things to do.

The cooking class I attended lasted for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours and was hosted by one of the hotel’s sous chefs, exclusively for a small group of us.

During the class, we learnt about the preparation of the traditional Greek dish called ‘Gemista,’ which is a combination of rice, seasoning stuffed into tomatoes and peppers.
The cooking process requires patience but the results are to die for.

Following the cooking class, I was able to enjoy this delicious recipe which is also best served some feta cheese. I must admit, I underestimated how filling this dish would be and I can’t wait to recreate the recipe!
