I recently visited Macdonald Elmers Court Hotel & Resort for an afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience in a peaceful setting. With views overlooking the hotel’s picturesque grounds, it made for a calm and enjoyable afternoon.
The food began with a selection of sweet treats which were delicious options. There was a selection of delicate pastries, including light macarons, rich cakes, and other sweets.
The warm scones served with generous portions of clotted cream and jam, were a highlight for me. They were soft and fresh, with just the right amount of sweetness.
There was also a selection of finger sandwiches featuring a variety of fresh fillings. From the classic egg mayo and cress sandwiches to the tuna and cucumber option, everything was well-prepared and nicely balanced. The sandwiches were served alongside a lovely teapot, poured into charming floral teacups that added to the ambience.
One of the things I appreciated was the relaxed pace. There was no rush to finish, which allowed me to fully enjoy the afternoon without feeling hurried. The staff were particularly welcoming and friendly and even wished me a happy birthday, which added a special personal touch.
As the portions were filling, I was able to take home a few leftovers to enjoy later and I had not experienced this before when going for an afternoon tea.
With the weather being so pleasant, I took a walk around the surrounding area after the tea experience. The grounds are beautifully maintained and provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxing stroll to end the day.
